DEBUSSY’S EXQUISITE “CLAIR de LUNE”: MEDITATION ON THE DIVINE

Clair de Lune is the third and most famous movement of French composer Claude Debussy’s “Suite Bergamasque.” The song title, when translated to English, means light of the moon, or Moonlight. Although Debussy wrote this piece for piano in 1890 at the age of 25, it was not published until 1905.
Of course, the concept of moonlight reminds us of the night – a time when the moon’s light makes things visible, but from an entirely different perspective than one experiences from the Sun Light during the day.
Moonlight and romance are two words that go together well. Romance – or being in love with that special other — elicits the tenderest, most loving of our emotions or feelings. Clair de Lune’s musical vibrations are tender and loving, with a wee pinch of excitement and passion thrown in. By listening to this hauntingly beautiful piece, we are Romancing the Divine within ourselves – which can be a mystical experience. This kind of meditation is so important in preparing us for the higher vibrations of the Aquarian Age.
Alchemical Marriage
For centuries, mystics have talked about this unique romance, which leads to Union with God. Catholic Saints like Catherine of Siena, Teresa of Avila, Julian of Norwich, and John of the Cross were all on their personal quest for Union or Marriage to Christ — Marriage to the Divine. This includes commitment or marriage to the Divine Potential within us, as well.
TO DO: I would suggest using this You Tube rendition of the gorgeous Clair de Lune (with Paul Barton at the piano) as your meditative background. Lie down and breathe deeply and slowly for a few minutes. Focus on your deep love and desire for Union with the Mind of Christ — and all that is Divine and lovely within you.
