CALLING FOR YOUR TRUE STORIES!
I am convinced that the extent to which we have traveled beyond our national borders directly impacts our capacity to relate in tangible terms to statements such as “there are people all over the planet to love.” For those who have not known people from nations other their own, these statements can easily fail to register in their conscious minds and thereby translate into their worldview and daily behavior. We live in cultures that tend to focus on fear of the unknown, including people who differ from the norm. We allow the news media to convince us there are mean people everywhere. Part of the reason we may do so is that we know of no true stories of kindness upon which to focus instead.
How can we work together to overcome this lack of experience?
Sharing our true short stories of how people in the nations we have visited responded to us with kindness and helpfulness, expecting nothing in return, is an excellent way!
With this in mind, I am making a call to all those privileged to travel internationally to submit your story to me. I would like to compile these true, short stories into a book for the purpose of expanding the energy of love throughout our planet. We will be amazed at how reading these true stories will change our worldview. Your story will be attributed to you by name, so you have the opportunity to become a published writer.
(I do reserve the right to edit your story, keeping it as near to what you have written as possible.)
I will tell one of my true stories to give you an idea of the type stories for which I am calling.

I was traveling with a group of seminary students and our professors. We were in Damascus, Syria for the day. A group of students, including me, decided to walk from our hotel to downtown Damascus, even though the day was intermittently rainy. We strolled around the area, then headed back to our hotel. It was now pouring rain and we could not remember how to return to our hotel. We stopped at a city bus stop and asked a man—waiting on his bus—how to get to back to the hotel. Luckily, he could understand our English. He took one look at the group of drenched American students and volunteered, “Come on, I’ll show you the way.” Ignoring the fact that he would miss the bus for which he was waiting, he walked with us in the rain the several blocks to our hotel. Once there, we tried to get him to accept payment for his kindness, but he refused and returned to his bus stop, also drenched.
We very thankfully returned to our warm, dry hotel rooms, the memory of this kind man dwelling within our treasure box of Syrian remembrances!
Years later, whenever I hear news about Syria, this man’s kindness is what I remember and allow to influence my concept of his nation. There is a warm spot in my heart for Syria and its people!
