AMERICAN VETERANS TELL THEIR STORIES OF SURVIVAL
AMERICAN VETERANS TELL THEIR STORIES OF SURVIVAL
Patrick J. Bastow, DDS
“During the course of my career as a dentist caring for Americas’ veterans, it became apparent with time that many of them felt comfortable sharing their unique stories with me. Some even suggested that something should be done to record and share this information with others interested in the legacy of their stories. And so this labor of love was completed in recognition of their sacrifices.” https://www.amazon.com/My-Heroes-Their-Stories-Survival/dp/1483594580/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&dpID=51tdSGaSIkL&dpPl=1&keywords=my%20heroes%20and%20their%20stories%20of%20survival%20book&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&qid=1493558013&ref=plSrch&ref_=mp_s_a_1_1&sr=8-1
NOTE BY NANCY: I post news of this forthcoming book in order to honor our American veterans and also to assist all of us in understanding war and what our loved ones experience when sent to war.
My late husband served in WWII as a member of the Army Band. He told me only two of the horror stories. One of these characterized his tour of duty in Japan where he so empathized with the mothers who had no food to feed her children that he often gave his Army meal to them. That was the kind of man John was. The one story he told of getting to play in the band for popular singer, Danny Kaye, helped to blend his memories with a touch of joy.
