BASIC SOUL PURPOSES:  A CAPRICORN incarnation is one of initiation—the “gateway through which the Accepted Disciple, having walked the Path of life through nine tests (or zodiac signs), is now ready to culminate her journey and ascend to the Mountaintop.”  (Oken)  Whereas Cancer is the “gate in,” CAPRICORN is the “gate out” where freedom from the personality, through successfully passing the initiatory tests, is granted.  CAPRICORN IS THE PATHWY TO TRANSFIGURATION.

          LESSON TO LEARN:  Detachment to the material forms of life, so that she is left free to be the co-creator of those forms.

          Functioning totally on the Personality-Centered Level – marks the end of the crystallization of the personality, resulting in a total attachment to the physical plane.  For this reason, CAPRICORN at personality-centered level can contain very difficult lessons.  The attachment to form can be so great that CAPRICORN is totally earthbound in orientation.  The physical environment in which CAPRICORN is reared and the psychological patterns existing within the family-of-origin allow little freedom for individual choice.  There is little or no awareness of a spirit living within the forms of life.  CAPRICORN, at this level, can be heard saying, “What you see is what you get.”  SATURN, ruler of CAPRICORN, is very restrictive at this level, resulting in a disposition characterized by worry and melancholy.  Fear of lack, of not getting what she wants, or of losing what she has are paramount in the mind of the personality-centered CAPRICORN.  Life seems to be one constant uphill battle.  CAPRICORN is dragging behind her all the excess baggage from many previous lifetimes.  This baggage is glued in place by untransmuted emotional habit patterns centered largely in fear.  Because CAPRICORN can never be complacent, ambition drives her forward.  When ambition expresses through the personality-centered CAPRICORN, her self-seeking ways lead to further karmic baggage until she is ready to collapse under the load.  It is at this point of collapse that a ray of light is able to penetrate the hard crust of earthbound CAPRICORN.  The birthing of the Christ awakens the unconscious heart.

          Awakening to the Soul-Personality Relationship – CAPRICORN begins to awaken to the hidden spiritual value within the forms of life.  CAPRICORN begins to transform her desire for worldly status and recognition into the aspiration to take on responsibilities that will be of benefit to others.  The urge to create form out of purpose is paramount.  CAPRICORN now has far-reaching goals toward which she works with great determination and will for success.  She is learning to act ambitiously, while not being attached to the outcome of her actions.  CAPRICORN is planting the seeds of self-sacrifice in preparation for embarking on the Path of living and working in the NOW moment.  Money and material possessions are increasingly viewed as representatives of energy and power.

          Soul-Centered Individual – at this level, the Unicorn emerges—always sensitive to the Plan and the Will aspect of Divinity.  CAPRICORN is now able to synthesize the three RAYs on which she is functioning, allowing for a tremendous outpouring of creativity.  CAPRICORN is magnetic and focused through her highly evolved 3^rd RAY’s active intelligence.  She is, thereby, able to bring about the necessary organization and order required to bring forth her created forms.  This combination of the 1^st, 3^rd, and 7^th RAY influences grants CAPRICORN the capacity to tear down the old and create the new forms that allow for the externalization of the Divine Plan.  CAPRICORN may appear distant, aloof, and unrelenting in her need to bring about change and transformation.  The Unicorn is one-pointed.  That point is directed to the heart of humanity, so that it may open ever wider and allow the light of the Christed Self to radiate forth.  CAPRICORN, as the Unicorn, creates the physical plane forms through which this Light may manifest as the Wayshower for humanity.  CAPRICORN is now a Server to the Earth and Creator of resources.  The soul-centered CAPRICORN Initiate may remain in the consciousness of Divine Love.  Yet the call to service is so strong that she turns her back on a period of heavenly rest and returns into incarnation to continue serving humanity.

POSITIVE CHARACTERISTICS:

          CAPRICORN can be intolerant, suspicious, stubborn, and have a tendency toward retaliation.  CAPRICORN can be melancholy and depressed with a tendency to worry.  An inferior complex can be at the root of CAPRICORN’s need for recognition and positive reinforcement.  Seeing tangible results of the work CAPRICORN has done also helps in overcoming the inferior complex.  CAPRICORN often fears being without the necessities of life.  CAPRICORN needs to learn to believe in herself and to consciously develop optimism.  Rigidity of thinking and behaving can result in arthritis.  False pride and a tendency to dominate can be present.  The CAPRICORN MALE clings to his mother, even after marriage, which often causes friction in the marriage.  As long as his mother lives, she is the center of his life.  If Saturn is afflicted with challenging aspects, CAPRICORN may be kinder to those in the external world than to the family she helped to create within marriage.  CAPRICORN can be a strong disciplinarian, tending to say, “Do it because I say so.”  CAPRICORN has difficulty understanding the feelings of others.  CAPRICORN may be plagued with conflict over her duty to “father.”  This feeling of obligation to father can mean that CAPRICORN will not come into her own until the father is deceased.  The CAPRICORN FEMALE may hunger for an emotional relationship with her father that he is unable to offer.  The CAPRICORN FEMALE will often select a marriage partner on the basis of father’s approval.  CAPRICORN can feel duty-bound to parents, to the family business, and to collective society.  Father’s approval, as well as the collective’s approval, is important for CAPRICORN—to the point of allowing self to be imprisoned by this need for approval.  CAPRICORN will even allow herself to be the family’s scapegoat.  CAPRICORN will often use the words “debt repayment” when describing her childhood and family dynamics.   At some point, CAPRICORN will break out of prison and follow her instincts.  This is usually the point at which CAPRICORN comes into her own.  CAPRICORN CHILDREN need to be encouraged to be playful, to relax, and to be creative.  It is especially important to expose CAPRICORN CHILDREN to the arts; otherwise, their innate practicality can lead them into “dry” areas of work that do not allow for the extreme creativity lying dormant within them. 

A CAPRICORN INCARNATION involves the search for dharma, or a mission in life.  Following the initiatory process of CAPRICORN, she is ready to serve humanity—she has earned her place among the World Servers.  The spiritual work accomplished through CAPRICORN must crystallize and be grounded on the Earth.  It involves the correct harnessing of Earth’s resources.

CAPRICORN ASCENDANT

          The zodiac energy on the Ascendant is the energy that the public beholds.  We also look at the world through our Ascendant.  CAPRICORN ASCENDANT, on the mundane level, views a world in which to succeed and receive recognition.

          In soul-centered astrology, the Ascendant is indicative of the soul’s purpose in physical incarnation. 

          CAPRICORN ASCENDANT indicates the soul is now ready to undergo the difficult tests involved in the Initiatory process.  On whatever level these tests are experienced, the goal is to awaken the individual to a higher level of spiritual awareness.  CAPRICORN ASCENDANT gives a strong desire to succeed in the material world.  If this success is sought for individual personal gain and recognition, the tests are likely to involve “karmic blows” pertaining to limitations that “knock” CAPRICORN ASCENDANT into a consciousness of her own mortality and the way things are.  Loss of persons, things, position may occur.  On the other hand, CAPRICORN ASCENDANT’s egocentric ambitions may result in being “stuck” in the physical plane mentality and lifestyle. 

          Another test may be CAPRICORN ASCENDANT’s need to move out from under the father’s dominion—physically and emotionally.  CAPRICORN ASCENDANT will often deny her own dreams out of fear of disappointing father.  Karmic issues with the father are usually present.  The FEMALE CAPRICORN ASCENDANT may have to deal with these issues before she feels free to marry the man of her choice (and not her father’s choice for her).  Both male and female CAPRICORN ASCENDANTs are ambitious.  If the female is not successful on her own, she may tend to push her husband to be more successful.  This can create real problems within the marriage because often CAPRICORN ASCENDANT will marry a gentle, kind, spiritual type man who is too sensitive to succeed (according to her expectations) in the competitive workplace. 

          A major lesson for CAPRICORN SUN/ASCENDANT is that of unselfish love.  Often CAPRICORN ASCENDANT is subconsciously seeking the “ideal mother” in his/her marriage partner.  Getting in touch with her Venus is an important task for CAPRICORN SUN/ASCENDANT.  Beauty, love, art, nature, spontaneous fun—all are Venusian qualities that seldom come easily to CAPRICORN.  Instead, she will seek to experience life through the family’s daily routine.

          CAPRICORN ASCENDANT reveals that the soul is to be activated through the 1^st, 3^rd, & 7^th RAYs.  She is to carry out her mission (or dharma) as a leader who exhibits the Will, Intelligence, and Power to assist in bringing forth better conditions for her entire Earth family.

MOON IN CAPRICORN

          The MOON reveals the personality as it is displayed in our reactions to the events within our daily lives.  It also reveals much that is hidden within our subconscious minds.

          On the soul-centered level, the MOON reveals habit patterns that must be overcome or transformed in order to advance in spiritual maturity.  This struggle to overcome the negative tendencies revealed by the MOON is the “cross” we bear (Alan Oken).  The MOON reminds us of the negative habit patterns formed in prior incarnations that created the karma we brought into this incarnation. 

          The MOON IN CAPRICORN indicates that soul growth will occur as the individual learns to accept and appreciate the self-discipline required by the personality and soul level planetary ruler of CAPRICORN, SATURN.  The more self-discipline we exert, the easier it becomes.  SATURN acts as the supervisor (the Dweller on the Threshold) standing at the doorway of the Rainbow Bridge to higher consciousness.  It is through developing the art of self-discipline that we are enabled to successfully pass CAPRICORN’s Initiatory tests and walk across that bridge as an INITIATE now ready for World Service.

          MOON IN CAPRICORN is a reminder that the initiatory tests were not successfully completed in prior lifetimes.  Instead, MOON IN CAPRICORN preferred to follow her own ambitions, to seek positions of power for her own personal reasons.  MOON IN CAPRICORN has manipulated others in her efforts to win recognition, she has been intolerant of others’ feelings, and she has ignored the ideas of others.  Though MOON IN CAPRICORN appears serene and charming on the outside, she is often suffering internally from strong feelings of fear, frustration, and inadequacy.  MOON IN CAPRICORN is likely to engage in a variety of power struggles because, on a subconscious level, she feels more secure while holding the authority position.  MOON IN CAPRICRON continues to cling to karmic patterns of allowing strong parental influence.  The playfulness aspect that can be so healing to the serious CAPRICORN energy must be consciously developed and integrated into her lifestyle.  The mythic character of Pan relates to the playful side of CAPRICORN (Kathleen Burt).

          CAPRICORN recharges by:  1) Regular contact with other earthy persons, especially Taurus & Virgo.  2) Earth is the vital energy of CAPRICORN, therefore, being close to nature, working in the dirt, and making prolonged contact with trees (hugging a tree, sitting with your back leaning against a tree) is an all important source of revitalization.  3) Earth plane duties and obligations that offer challenges in coping with the material world.  CAPRICORN needs to see the physical results of her efforts.  4) Conscious attunement to the Pan (playful) side of her nature.  CAPRICORN often has to be forced by life’s events to allow herself to commune with nature in playful, relaxing ways.  Once this happens, she will end up saying, “That was the best thing that ever happened to me.”  But—the goal is to intend this play, not wait until it is forced upon CAPRICORN.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION:

          CAPRICORN tends to disdain conflicts, but will express hostility as a defense against an attack.  CAPRICORN is deeply sensitive (a fact she hides from others).  If hurt during a conflict, it can take CAPRICORN a long time to heal.  As a result, CAPRICORN may seek retribution for the pain.  Since CAPRICORN resists looking inward, her communication is not likely to be open and honest during a conflict.  Rigidity in thinking can be a problem.

          CAPRICORNA’s strong and long-lasting attachment to her family-of-origin can be a source of conflict, especially within the marriage relationship.
